I first came across this quote from Gretchen Rubin back in 2016 or so, and I love the embrace of back to school energy, darkening evenings, and new stationery. Turns out it isn’t just the crisper air making us feel zingy – the science backs up this time of year as a good time to set goals and make plans too.
This year after my first summer as a freelancer and a parent, I’m looking forward to a return to routine… and yes, I spent a good chunk of Sunday afternoon filling out and colour coding the paper calendar in our kitchen. I read a lot of mom-bloggers in the early 00’s, and I can’t quite let it go.
So in the spirit of new year energy, here are five ideas that might be in your plans for the next few months…
Set strong marketing goals
If you want to review your content strategy, this comprehensive guide covers how to set goals for your content, and some great suggestions for goals you might have for your marketing in general. (Or you could hire us to help…)
Review your systems
Or if the idea of setting goals makes you start to look for things to do to avoid it (the stationery cupboard needs organising! I think I will clear out the shared drive today!) maybe you’re more of a systems person – according to James Clear that’s where we should be focusing our efforts. Perhaps improving meetings or getting organised at work is more important than big hairy goals for you right now.
Get on top of your digital toolkit
At What’s Next, we’re huge advocates of working with what you have and making sure everything you’re paying for and have invested in is working hard for your business. Our digital health check is designed to help you get the most from what you have and spot gaps, overlaps, and inefficiencies.
Boost your personal brand
The queen of personal branding Sophie Milliken MBE has a new book out this week, and you can grab the Kindle edition for 99p until midnight on Friday 6th September.
Figure out your plan B
If your September isn’t unfolding with the fresh hope of a new term, this article has some really practical advice about recalibrating when life comes along and sh*ts on your plan. Spoiler, a lot of it is about giving yourself grace.
