WOULD IT REALLY, OR ARE YOU JUST LOOKING TO CLARIFY YOUR THINKING?
Wes Kao is full of great ideas about workplace communication and completely nailed this one.
A good hack is to type the email anyway, even though you know it’s really too long and complicated and there are two many questions… and then when you have clarified your thinking, you can dive on a call to fill out the blanks, and then send the email as a follow up to confirm the conversation later.
Or if you genuinely need to knock an idea around with someone, be explicit that’s what you need and give your colleague plenty of space to schedule it when it works for them.

The power of AI… using your own material
If you’re frustrated by how ChatGPT wanders off on a tangent in the middle of what was starting to be a useful chat, NotebookLM could be the answer…
The product from Google uses generative AI tools, but it only uses what you have uploaded as it’s source material, so it won’t introduce novel (and therefore possibly irrelevant) ideas.
I first heard about it on the Happier in Hollywood podcast, (aside: this is a good listen even if you have no connection whatsoever to the film & tv industry).
The podcast hosts had uploaded show notes and episode transcripts to create a searchable memory of everything they had ever covered on their show, and were using the tools to create connections, see themes, and generate new ideas.
Currently experimenting with it to consolidate and connect research for a project, and figure out how it could help building an internal knowledge base for a client.
This writeup is a comprehensive overview of everything the tool can do, with some ideas for use cases
