As I hit send on the last issue, I realised that the content was very male-dominated. So I’m making a concerted effort to make this issue less of a sausage fest, starting with the Girls In Marketing podcast. This episode features Lush’s Senior PR Strategist, Florence Welsh, and covers leaving social media and taking a thoughtful, ground-up approach to PR.

Resting shred face
It took a few days, but I have finally recovered from my first visit to The Wave, a mechanical wave park for surfers down in Bristol. While I wasn’t exactly partying hard, the journey and the physical effort of four surf sessions really made that geriatric millennial label hit home.
The thing I’m most excited to get out of this trip is the first surfing photo I have where I actually look the part. My face is focused on the wave and as much as I don’t fit the conventionally attractive mould here, I am just as pleased with this photo as I am of one where I’m dressed up, and the camera’s caught me in good lighting. As Murieann Campbell once said, be pretty on rest days.
Challenging the mental health conversation
As someone who has experienced their fair share of mental health issues, I can be fairly sceptical when it comes to the awareness campaigns we see in the press. While well-meaning, they are largely focused on self-care and opening up to others, with little acknowledgement of the huge wait times for professional support and almost no mention of misunderstood complex conditions such as bipolar and schizophrenia. This Guardian piece explains how those with these complex conditions are excluded from the current conversation.
